16 Months Old
Another month has passed and my sweet baby boy is growing into a fun loving toddler right before my very eyes. He is so much fun these days! Wait...who am I kidding? He's always been fun! He is into everything, jabbering away like he's speaking another language, and not letting us rest for even a second, and I LOVE it all. True, there are days and nights when I am so exhausted, but it's so worth it. Here are Eli's 16 month updates!
Physically:
-not just walking anymore...running all over the place!
-throwing balls farther and farther (Josh is hoping he's going to get a left-handed pitcher!)
-climbing EVERYTHING (couches, dining room chairs, his crib, and anything he can get his little feet on top of!)
-Pointing to his ears, eyes, nose, toes, tongue, head, hair, belly button, booty
-shutting doors
-reaching for doorknobs and trying to open them
-throwing things in the trash when asked and even throwing some things in there when he's not asked to (most recently, his sippy cups and his socks)
-making his signs for "more", "milk", "bath", and "all done"
-crouching down to look for things under the couches and chairs (he's been doing this for awhile but I forgot to mention it)
-swiffering, sweeping, and mopping like a champ (i can even tell him to go get the dustpan for me and he does!)
-"helping" me load and unload the dishwasher and "helping" me put clothes in the laundry basket
-splashing like crazy in the tub
-writing on the tub walls with his crayons (his MOST favorite thing to do in the bathtub these days)
-brushing his teeth and letting me use the electric toothbrush on his teeth
Verbally:
-jabbering constantly all day long
-said "See ya!" back to Molly the other day (that's what she always tells him)
-being a mockingbird and repeating everything we tell him (he actually said the letters in his name today!)
-trying his best to say "Molly" (it usually comes out "La-La")
-he's added a couple of new words "dow" (door), "side" (outside), "Papa" (Grandpa), "bir" (bird), "mow" (more), "eef" (teeth), "ish" (fish), "ush" (brush)
Personality
-happy, happy, happy
-loves to play so much that sometimes it's hard for him to stop to eat or drink
-loves being outside and would be outside 24 hours a day if he could
-still pretty stubborn and lets you know quickly when he doesn't want to do something by saying "No"
-gets upset when he doesn't get his way and pouts by laying on the floor and putting his mouth on the floor and kissing it(Josh and I think it's pretty funny!)
Sleeping:
-still taking 2 naps a day most days; although three days this week, he didn't take a nap when he came home (EEK!! I don't think I'm ready for just one nap a day!)
-at night he's going down great and sleeping till about 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning
-he usually wakes up at least once still for some reason, but is easily consoled :) either with his paci or with some time with his Mama
Eating:
-still could live on yogurt, cheese, Lil' Crunchies, yogurt melts, fruit bars, wagon wheels, fruit and goldfish
-has recently started liking Gerber Graduate meals (the pasta/rice, chicken and veggie ones)
-the kid LOVES a scrambled egg and could eat one for every meal every day
-he usually eats a version of what Josh and I eat unless it's too spicy for him and he's doing much better with these meals as well!
-he has not had a morning bottle all week this week and tonight he drank a sippy cup of milk before bed instead of a bottle!!! I'm hoping this is the turning point for us because I'm ready to be through with bottles, but I'm trying to take my cues from him....so far, so good!
-will drink chocolate or regular milk during the day and also water; he doesn't really drink much juice at all
-he has had some tea (decaffeinated and sugar free) and I think he's going to be a true Southerner like his Mama because he LOVES the stuff!
Every month just keeps getting better and better. He is such a joy!!!

Top Baby Item....Lazy Susan
Sunday after church, Pop and Eli discovered a great way to play with Eli's truck puzzle pieces...on the lazy Susan! Pop did it one time and Eli kept signing and saying, "mo" (more). The cars would go around and around and Eli would smile the entire time. He kept saying "Voom, voom!" :)
Not an exaggeration at all, but they probably played like this for a good 30-45 minutes. Eli LOVED it! And now anytime he plays with this puzzle, he wants to play with it on the lazy Susan. Thanks, Pop! :)
After he tired of playing with the trucks, Eli watched a video of himself that Grammy had on her iPod. He was quite entranced with himself as you can see. He watched it over and over again, while sitting on the dining room table. Is there another place you're supposed to sit? What a fun afternoon!

Eli's Nighttime Routine
Saturday night after Eli's big day shopping at the antique stores in Natchez, he and Grammy had lots of fun splish splashing in the tub.
Then Eli showed Grammy how big boys brush their teeth...well, hopefully, they don't brush their teeth this way, but you get the idea!
Usually after he brushes his teeth, we go to his room and to get his pajamas, but this night he decided to go down his slide a few times in his "birthday suit". He had a blast as you can tell!
He got his pj's on and then he and Grammy read a book together.
Then he and Pop read a book together.
After giving out his bedtime hugs and sugars, he had his milk and then went to bed. What a great ending to a perfect day!

Dowtown Natchez with Grammy and Pop
Grammy and Pop came in for the weekend and Eli had such a blast with them like he always does. Saturday morning we decided to go to downtown Natchez and hit all the antique stores. Mom and Dad love antiques and would love to have a house full of them. I enjoy going to the stores and looking at antiques, but not necessarily buying them; however, I'd really been wanting to buy an elephant figurine for my house, so that's what I went hoping to find and I did!
While we were shopping, we heard the faint sounds of drums in the distance and realized that a parade was coming down Main Street. Unfortunately, it was at this time that I also realized that I had left my camera in the car. I have no pictures of Eli at the parade, but he had such a great time listening to the bands and catching beads and candy. Pop let him have not one, not two, but THREE Dum-Dum suckers. Eli was in a sugar coma :) Ha ha! He had such a great time. When we got back to the car, I grabbed my camera and snapped some pictures of my little boy loving on his Grammy and Pop. So, so sweet! What a fun day!

15 Month Well Visit
February 16th, Eli went to see Dr. R for his 15 month well visit. Luckily, I was off from school for Mardi Gras break (Woo Hoo!), so I didn't have to take off from work for this visit. Eli and I enjoyed our morning together and then got ready to go see Dr. R. We got there and no one was there. While we waited for the nurse to call us to the back, Eli had fun reading books, pushing around chairs, and playing with his monkey, Mo.

He was in a particularly good mood, so I started asking him to point to different body parts.
Nose
Ear
Teeth (he's clacking his teeth together)
Belly (look at him grabbing those rolls!)
Dr. R made it back to the room and Eli had a perfect check-up. Here are his 15 month old stats:
Weight: 22 lbs. 11 oz. (25th percentile)
Height: 30 1/2 in. (50th percentile)
Head: 18 3/4 in. (75th percentile)
I told Josh with these measurements, he sounds like a caricature. A tall, skinny minny body and a big head :)
He sat so perfectly for her and did such a good job. While she and I were talking, he was so intent on getting down so he could walk around. I just kept him this way while we waited on the nurse to bring him his shots, too.
He got the dreaded shots (only 2) and only cried for a few seconds. Here he is pointing to his band-aids, which he promptly ripped off after these pictures. What a TOUGH guy!
