Green Thumb

The Saturday before Easter, Eli, Josh, and I made our first trip of the season to Upton's Nursery to get plants for our flower beds. This is something we do every year, but this time, Eli was old enough to come with us. He and Josh worked on the design plan before we started looking at any plants. They wanted to make sure that we knew what we were buying.

Then it was time to start looking at the plants and choosing what we wanted. Because of the cold winter we had this year, all the plants are getting a later start than usual. The flowers we wanted weren't very big yet, so we decided to wait on a couple things until they had more time to grow.

Eli was more interested in everything else that was going on around him than he was in staying with Mommy and Daddy. We had to keep a real close eye on him the entire time we were out there because he loved walking around on his own and finding things that interested him....

Like watching the man water the plants.....

And digging in the pots and throwing the dirt on the ground....

And smiling when he got caught doing something he knew he shouldn't be doing...

Or petting the owner's dog...

And watching him do tricks...

Pushing another customer's cart around...

We finally realized that buying plants with a 17 month old was pretty useless. We rounded up our little adventuresome man and headed home. We didn't leave completely empty handed though. We bought a few things, but we're definitely going to have to make a return trip soon. I wonder what he'll get into next time....
