Uncle Clare's Retirement Party

This fall one of our favorite people in the world, Uncle Clare, retired from his job at the Department of Agriculture. In honor of him and his retirement, a few family and friends got together at Uncle Clare and Mammy's house to celebrate Clare and this momentous occasion. We had coffee and a huge selection of desserts. Everything was so good!

Isn't Tammy's centerpiece so beautiful?
This is one of the pumpkins from Clare's pumpkin patch.

Harley Clare was looking cute as always.

Tammy's famous bread pudding. It's DELISH!

The award Clare received from work.

Eli also got a surprise at Clare's party. Mammy gave him his first
CD of George Strait. He was so excited and couldn't wait to sing "Check Yes or No".

After desserts and coffee, Clare opened up some of his gifts. Tammy gave him a job jar for when he gets bored now that he's retired. Clare read some of the slips inside and they said "Load the dishwasher", "Wash clothes", "Vacuum", etc. Sue was having a fit thinking Tammy had written all these things to make Clare work instead of enjoying his retirement and then he told her that they were all blank :) He was just doing that to get to Sue...totally worked like a charm :)

Congratulations on your retirement, Uncle Clare! We are so excited that you get to travel, spend time with your family, and do what you want to do now :) We love you!

The Day Pigs Flew (A.K.A The Day the Saints Won the Super Bowl!)

Super Bowl Sunday all three members of the Wilson family donned their Saints gear and got ready for church. Our church had announced the week before that it would be casual Sunday and for everyone to wear black and gold to support the Saints. Eli wore his Saints shirt and grabbed his favorite monkey, Mo, and waited for Josh and I to finish getting ready.

He was in such a good mood and I was able to snap a couple of pictures of the Saints' cutest fan! Check out the mohawk, too! Remember he has my wavy hair, so his mohawks usually curl. :)

After church we went over to Mamaw Chandler's house for some lunch. Eli practiced his climbing skills. As if he needed any more practice with this particular skill! He's a climbing fool!

After we ate lunch, I unleashed my inner bakerella and made these adorable Oreo truffle footballs that were featured on the REAL Bakerella's website here. These turned out so cute and they were SO EASY to make! Everyone loved them!

Soon it was time for us to leave for our Super Bowl party over at the Welch's. They host the best football parties so we couldn't wait to go see them and visit with everyone else.

Proud Saints family!

We got to the Welch's a little early so we walked next door to see Beppa and Cliff and their dog, Sassy. Eli was quite taken with Sassy and luckily for us Sassy is so gentle. She let Eli play with her tail, rub her, and pet her all he wanted. I think he would have taken Sassy home with him if we would have let him.

The boys, I mean, men, started a game of catch and Greg Randall showed Eli how the professionals snap the football.

Eli caught on pretty quickly, but decided he would rather coach instead. Here he is calling a few plays from the sidelines.

The boys didn't run the play the way he wanted him to, so he grabbed the football and had to show them himself. I guess if you want something done right you've got to do it yourself!

While the game was going on, MeMaw Tim and Cliff were manning the grill. MeMaw Tim was in charge of the burgers and sausage. Cliff was in charge of his infamous cream cheese and jalapeno stuffed deer tenderloin. Oh yeah! It's even better than it sounds!

It was pretty cold outside, so Eli and I went inside to check on "B" and everyone else. Eli is in love with the deer that is in their office. As soon as he gets inside their house, it's the first place he wants to go to every time.

Look at the great tablescape that "B" made for our Super Bowl party. She always does a great job making everything look fun and festive!

And the food...There was so much yummy food at our party. Hamburgers, deer sausage, deer tenderloin, chicken dip, cream cheese with hot pepper jelly, spinach dip, humus dip, guacamole, sausage and cheese, and so much more. I was in pig out heaven!

After the game got started, Eli became pretty fascinated with the french doors in B's living room. He loved playing peek a boo with us!

When he got tired of that game, he found B's toys and played with those for a little bit...

Then he decided the french doors would be fun again :) He's never still!

Pretty soon, it was time for him to go home. He called for his taxi (Mom) and we left the Welch's after the halftime show.

We got home and watched the rest of the game while Eli drank his milk before going to bed. We were ecstatic when the Saints won their very first Super Bowl! Way to go, Saints! It was a great night and the big win made it even better!

Backtracking: Cookies and Cocoa

Every year the Shields (Mammy and Uncle Clare) host Cookies and Cocoa at their house for all their family and friends. Last year, Eli was really itty bitty when we went to Cookies and Cocoa. It's so much fun to compare things year to year and see just how much he has grown. This year, Eli dressed in his new Christmas duds and we made our way to Mammy and Uncle Clare's house.

I snapped a couple of pictures of him on the way and as you can tell he wasn't too happy when I told him he couldn't have any hot cocoa because it would burn his little mouth. He didn't care too much for that news, but he was fine once we got to Mammy's house.

We parked near their barn and Eli got to see a horse for the first time. He was quite intrigued with it, but it wouldn't get anywhere near us; the horse was a little camera shy.

We walked inside Mammy's house and found that it was FULL! There were so many people there. Eli made himself right at home though and quickly found his friend, Brayden. Mammy got out Eli's box of toys and Brayden, Sydnee (Brayden's older sister), and Eli started playing their little hearts out while the adults indulged in lots of yummy cookies and hot cocoa.

After some people left, Eli explored all of Mammy's Christmas decorations and was quite taken with her Christmas village. He saw the bushes in the village and immediately said, "Bawl!" Luckily, he didn't try to throw them though, which is what he usually does anytime he has anything in his hands that resembles a ball.

Before we left for the night, Eli decided to show off how strong he is getting to everyone still there. He proceeded to pull himself into the chair so he could sit like a big boy. :) This is what we go through on a daily basis. He LOVES to climb anything. I'm going to have to bolt everything to the wall and the floor if I'm going to make it through the next couple of years with all my hair!

We had such a wonderful time at Cookies and Cocoa. We can't wait to do it again next year, Mammy and Uncle Clare. Thanks!
