A Look Back at 2013

I know I may not be through blogging for 2013, but I had to go ahead and include our look back at 2013 video. It was a great year! I had so much fun reliving all these memories as I placed the pictures in this slideshow. I'm so thankful for the family and friends that I was able to share 2013 with. God has been so good and I'm so thankful for the blessings in my life. I hope you enjoy our family's look back at 2013. I'm looking forward to making new memories in 2014.

Ten Years Ago...

Ten years ago, my life changed forever.
Ten years ago, I married my best friend.
Ten years ago, I saw my future standing in front of me.
Ten years ago, my prayers came true.
Ten years ago, I began an incredible journey that I'm still on today.

Today, my life is so full, so complete, and so happy.
Today, I feel like the luckiest girl alive.
Today, I am more in love than I was ten years ago.
Today, I can't wait for another ten years, and then another ten years after that, and ten more after that. Today, I would marry him all over again.

Happy Anniversary to one of the greatest men I know. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for choosing to spend the rest of your life with me. Thank you for being exactly what I need. I love you and I can't wait to see where life takes us next. I'm so thankful that you'll be by my side.

Best of 2011

2011 was an exciting year for our family! We built a new house, Eli started a new school, and we had many fun adventures along the way. Here's a look back at our year :)

Relay for Life 2011

This past Friday our area celebrated Relay for Life. Relay for Life is usually scheduled for the first weekend in May, but due to the rising floodwaters in our area we had to postpone it until the river dropped. Josh's work always picks really cute themes for their booth for Relay for Life and this year was no exception. If you follow the show Swamp People, then you'll recognize the following saying...

What is this world coming to? Haha!

Even though we didn't get to Relay until 6:30 it was still incredibly hot! If someone had set up a snowball stand out there, they would have made some serious money. We tried our best to stay cool and enjoy ourselves despite the heat. Relay for Life is such a wonderful event that helps the American Cancer Society and I'm so happy that we get the chance to participate every year. It seems that everyone knows someone who has had cancer or is battling cancer at the moment. Through this event we're able to raise money for the American Cancer Society to help them find a cure for cancer. What a blessed day that is going to be!!

All the booths sell something the night of the relay to help raise additional money for their team. Josh's work was no exception. They sold t-shirts (believe it or not Swamp People is HUGE in our area) and other paraphernalia. They also had a game where you could toss the rings on the alligators nose. Eli and Josh tried their hand at that game for a few minutes, but Eli preferred to just walk around with the rings rather than place them on the alligator's nose.

They also had a photo area set up where you could put an alligator hat on and take a picture. We all had to do that one!

Eli saw Mr. Cliff, Josh's boss, after we took our pictures and had to give him a big high five. Mr. Cliff is one of the best men I've ever met. He is such an example of Christ in his daily life, and I'm so thankful that Josh is able to work for a man like him. Mr. Cliff is incredibly kind, humble, and always puts others before himself. He's been battling cancer since around the time that Eli was born and we're still continuing to pray for him. He's such a trooper! Eli and I always make sure we visit Mr. Cliff when we go visit Daddy at work.

The first lap at our event was for the survivors and I always get so emotional watching all these men, women, and children walking around the track. I don't understand why cancer has to happen to so many people, but I do know that God is there with them every step of the way helping them overcome so many challenges they face as they battle this disease.

Next up was the team lap. Eli and I missed that one because a certain little someone happened to remember a big bouncy slide he saw on our way in and was dying to go play on it. I did make sure to take a picture of Ms. Ouida all dressed up in her alligator hunting gear though :)

While Josh stayed with his work people for the team lap, Eli and I headed back to the bouncy slide. It was only $5 for the entire night so we couldn't pass up a deal like that, especially when all proceeds were going to such a great cause. Eli was the smallest one of the slide, but he had the best time. I really didn't think he'd be able to climb those steps all by himself, but he proved me wrong!

The bigger kids on there were incredibly sweet to Eli. He always had more than one buddy who would help him climb up the steps and then make sure he was settled before he slid. I was thankful for their help! I wouldn't have minded having to go in there with him, but I was happy that I was able to sit on the sidelines, take pictures, and watch my little boy have the time of his life.

There were a couple of times when he didn't slide quite as gracefully as the pictures above show, but even after those tumbles, he got right back up and went back for more. The only thing he stopped for was water. We stayed at the slide for a long time and then went back to find Daddy and walk one lap with him. Isn't our venue beautiful? It just doesn't get any better than the sun setting behind the Mississippi River. What a beautiful sight!

Eli and I went back to the slide two more times that night and each time he got braver and braver. As you will see in the videos below he has no fear at all-this will be a good thing or a bad thing one day, I just can't tell right now :) It was such a great night honoring the loved ones who have battled or who are battling cancer. I'm so proud to be a part of such a caring community!

Shape Jumping

During the summer, I try to do lots of fun new activities with Eli, but sometimes you just go back to the old faithful ones that you know kids will always enjoy...like sidewalk chalk. We were playing with sidewalk chalk the other day and being the teacher/nerd that I am, I thought I'd capitalize on a teachable moment and play a fun game with Eli with shapes and colors. Eli has known his shapes and colors for a long time, but it's always good to go back and reinforce what he's learned. This game did just that!

Playing at the Playground

Eli and I have found a new playground to go to on the mornings he doesn't have school and we both love it. It's at a church in our area and no one is ever there, so we try to go as much as we can. It's perfect in the mornings because it stays shaded until about 11:00. Eli and I went there last Friday and played for about an hour. Some of the equipment is too big for Eli right now, but it won't be long before he's able to do it all. I was really impressed with his balancing skills on part of the playground. I only had to help him one time and then he had it! I made sure to get video evidence of him crossing the swinging bars because I wanted his Daddy to see!

A few days later, we invited Eli's friends Clayton and Cooper to meet us at the playground for some fun. They loved the playground too! Have I mentioned lately how much I love summer with my little boy? :)

Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming...

A pattern has already developed for our summer days and Eli and I are adjusting quite fine. Tuesday-Thursday Eli goes to a summer program at his old preschool. Josh and I thought it would be best to keep him on a schedule of going to school that way there won't be that big of an adjustment in the fall. He stays at school from 9:00-12:00. At first I felt a little guilty sending him to school since I was home all summer, but it's allowed me time to do things that I need to do-work for school, errands, exercise (only happened twice so far!), etc. It's also given me time to do things that I don't necessarily "need" to do, but things I "want" to do, which mostly consists of blogging and reading. When I pick him up from school, he takes a nap until about 2:00 and then we spend the rest of our afternoon at the pool. Ahhh, how I love summer!

Eli has gotten A LOT better at swimming in just a week. I'm thrilled with all his progress! He now jumps in the water to me, blows bubbles in the water, and goes down the slide. He has gone underwater several times and is handling it so much better! I've contacted a friend about swimming lessons for him this summer and hopefully he'll start those soon.

He rarely swims without his glasses :)

We're very thankful for the generosity of friends who have let us use their pools. This summer we've visited Mr. Art's pool a lot, but a lady that Josh works with, Mrs. Dolly, has let us come to her house to swim too! Both pools are fabulous and we are so thankful that we have been given the opportunity to swim so much. It's a great way to beat the heat!

Josh stopped by Mr. Art's house on his way home from work one day and Eli decided to show him his skills on the slide. Needless to say, Daddy was WAY impressed! I was so happy that he was finally going underwater without any problems. I was starting to get worried! I can't wait to see how he progresses over the summer :)
