Saturday morning, Josh and I got to come home with Eli. I got discharged around 9:00 that morning and after a check-up from the pediatrician Eli was discharged around 10:00. We loaded up the car with all of our bags from the hospital, put Eli in his car seat, and made the trip across the bridge to our home. While we were still at the hospital, Mom, Dad, and Sue were making preparations to welcome the three of us home. Maggie even got into the spirit of the welcome home party and posed for a picture with her ball. She's going to be a good big sister!
Josh and I pulled into the driveway and we were so surprised to see all the posters and signs that they had made. It was so exciting to know that we were finally HOME! Eli wore his special coming home outfit; unfortunately, you can't really see it because of the blankets around him. Luckily, it is a little big on him, so we'll have a few more opportunities to take some good pictures of him in it.
Our new family posed for a picture or two before giving Eli the grand tour of his home. He was tired and hungry, so the tour didn't last very long, but we were able to show him his room.
We laid him in his crib and then he and I spent some time rocking in the chair that my dad recovered for me. We have spent many moments in this chair already. It's so sweet to sit and rock my son to sleep, to read books to him, sing songs to him, and spend time bonding with him. I look forward to many more hours spent in that chair.
Later that afternoon, Sarah Shields brought the Littlest Lamb sign from the church over to our yard announcing that Eli was indeed home. It was so thoughtful of her to do that for us.
After Eli ate and took a nap, we settled down for a little bit of rest and relaxation. After Eli woke up he got to watch a little bit of the LSU/Alabama game with his Daddy. We hoped that Eli's LSU blanket would help the Tigers pull out a win over Alabama, but unfortunately it didn't. He was pretty cute though. I'm sure he and his Daddy are going to spend many more Saturday's watching football games together in the years to come.
Some friends of ours, Sarah and Robbie Gore, also stopped by the say hi to our new little guy. They were on their way back to Ruston and wanted to see him before they left. They were thoughtful enough to bring a Mommy and Daddy recovery basket to us full of sour, chewy candy...my favorite! Thanks, Sarah and Rob!
The first day home was full of excitement and anticipation of what was to come for all of us. I thought this picture was funny because it shows my little man's high sucking need. When he's hungry just about anything will do, even chins! Don't worry...he got some real food right after this picture was taken :)
I love the chin sucking picture!! Drew took a paci in the hospital as well, but when we got home would pretty much have nothing to do with it! He loooves sucking on knuckles and my cheeks! The best slobber ever!
