In our area there aren't very many extracurricular activities for little boys, so when we heard that there were going to be soccer tryouts we made sure to sign Eli up! One Sunday afternoon after church, we met on the soccer field and watched as our little boy "tried out." The age group that he was going to compete in is for 4-6 year olds. It doesn't seem like that big of a gap, but ability wise it is. Those 6 year olds have had two more years of running and it makes a big difference. Eli didn't even seem to notice that some of the kids were bigger than him though, so that makes me feel better. I personally think they should group the 4 and 5 year olds together and the 6 and 7 year olds together, but they didn't ask me :)
The first thing they did was have all the kids line up on the field. They put them in groups of threes and then had them run down the field and kick a ball into the goal. Not a big deal at all. All the kids were excited about getting a turn.
Once they got to the middle of the field, they each took turns kicking the ball into the goal. Eli loved this part and did really well with his ball handling.
After he scored his goal, his tryouts were over. He had lots of fun, which made me happy. Now all we had to do was wait and find out which team he was going to be on. We couldn't wait for his first soccer season to begin!
