Seeing Green

Wednesday was St. Patrick's Day and Josh and I came prepared with our green shirts...I didn't want to get pinched by some random person! Once again, we woke up at GLORIOUS 9 o'clock, got dressed, and immediately went in search of coffee and food. We decided to forgo the tourist coffee mecca that is Starbucks and find a cafe that looked like only locals used. It took longer than we planned to reach though because of all the CRAZY St. Patrick's day fans (college and high school kids who were out on Spring Break and wanted to do nothing but yell, drink, scream, and drink some more!). It was PURE CRAZINESS! We found sanctuary in our cafe and ordered our first New York bagel with cream cheese. I don't know what they do to make their bagels taste so good, but that bagel was the best one I have ever eaten in my life! Yum, yum, yum! I wish I had one right now, in fact!


After our delicious, but not so healthy, breakfast (speaking of unhealthy, carb rich meals, I've realized that I know why New Yorkers walk so much...they have to in order to stay skinny! When you eat bagels, hotdogs, pretzels, and pizza all day long, you have to walk just to fit into your clothes!), we walked to Macy's, the self-proclaimed world's largest department store. I don't know if it's the largest in the world, but it's definitely the largest one I've ever been in. There were a total of 10 floors! WOW! Imagine having to do inventory there! One of the neat things we did while we were there was ride the original wooden escalator that was there when Macy's was first built.





We left Macy's, saw Herald Square, and then made our way to the New York Public Library. On the way, we walked through Bryant Park. If I lived in New York, I would have to live near one of these parks. They seem so peaceful and quiet and relaxing. I wish we would have had time to sit and eat at one of the restaurants there, but we were on a tight schedule. We had a matinee we had to make it back for at 2:00.

The library was right next to Bryant Park, so we quickly made our way there. If we ever go back to New York, I am going to go on the tour of the New York Public Library. It was the largest library I have ever been inside. It was AMAZING! Everywhere you looked you saw marble, marble, and more marble. I hated that we had to leave after just taking a few pictures, but we were going to see WICKED and that was one show I didn't want to miss!

After another lunch of delicious New York Pizza, we walked to the Gershwin theater for our show. I had heard so many wonderful things about this show that I couldn't wait for it to begin. Once it began though, I didn't want it to end. It was the BEST show I have ever seen. It had it all-great story, beautiful costumes, humor, wit, OUT OF THIS WORLD singing, dancing, and so much more. I loved it all and would go see it again right now if I could! If you are in New York, and this show is still playing, you need to go see it.
