The Wilson's Build Their Dream House Update

Last week at the Wilson's House was all about painting, painting, and more painting. It was so fun to walk in the house and see what it was going to look like with all the colors on the wall. Here's a rundown of the colors.

Kitchen/Dining Room/Living Room/Entryway

Benjamin Moore: Bleeker Beige

Guest Bedroom (Future 2nd Baby Room One Day-whenever that happens!):

Eli's Room
Benjamin Moore: Yarmouth Blue

Eli's room is the only room that I want to change colors. His blue turned out to be too baby blue for me, so now we're going with a darker blue called Buxton Blue. He is SUPER EXCITED that he has a blue now though!

Another view of the kitchen. Our cabinets are going to be painted using an antique white finish. I can't wait to see what it looks like! The island is going to be stained Dark Walnut (I think). I love the idea of a two-toned kitchen :)

And this brings us to the exterior paint. My friend, Torri, and I chose a paint color that we absolutely loved on the swatch. It was a beautiful color called Richmond Bisque. I thought it was going to be THE color. Unfortunately, the moment Josh and I drove down our street and saw our house, we both knew it was wrong. That color HAD to go! 

The next day Josh got to work and found a color that looked perfect. I still wanted to see it in person, so I went by the hardware store and picked up three small sample jars of paint so we could paint samples of the siding and then hold them up against the brick to compare. After the hardware store, I took my original color swatch by the house to prove that it wasn't my fault. Whew! Was I ever relieved when I saw that the color on the siding was different than the one I picked out. It was still ugly, but at least it wasn't my fault ;)

Josh painted three pieces of siding and we took them down to the house to make a decision. My decorator of a husband did it again and picked out the perfect color. I'm thinking about renting him out because he's so good at this decorating thing! So without further ado, our new exterior siding color is
Pismo Dunes by Benjamin Moore. He also picked out our trim color. It's called Glacier White by Benjamin Moore.

I've realized that when you build a house there are always going to be things you have to change. Sometimes it seems like something new everyday. Way back when we were framing our house, we moved the fireplace from where it was on the plans to the exterior wall that leads out onto the patio. When we did that we didn't realize just how much this would encroach on our living space in the living room. A couple of weeks ago after our cabinet guy built our mantle, we discovered that all the living room furniture we bought wasn't going to fit :( Oh dear, back to the furniture store we would have to go...

Saturday we did just that. All three of us traveled to Jackson to go back to Miskelly furniture. We met with our saleslady again and picked out more furniture. Here is what we're getting now :)

Eli decided to do the sleep test on the couch and love-seat we purchased. We realized that we wouldn't have room for a couch, love-seat, and a recliner for Josh, so we found a love-seat and couch that have reclining seats. We think they're going to be perfect!

I didn't think my original accent chair went with the new couches so I picked out a new accent chair as well. I actually think this one fits me much better! I love how retro it is :)

While we were there we decided to look at beds for Eli and I found one I liked, so we added it onto the ever growing list. We opted to just get the bed and nightstand though since he already has a chest of drawers he can use.

One reason why we love Miskelly is they are a one-stop shop for everything. They have every piece of furniture you could imagine, a cafe, free wireless, and a carousel for the kids. Eli and Josh had fun going around for one ride.

Looking at all that furniture can kind of get to you...I think Josh had reached his breaking point here :)

Eli though was ready for more! We had a great time together as a family and I can't wait to get all this furniture in our house. I'm so excited about putting our rooms together :) Stay tuned for more updates!

Conversations with Eli-The Truth About Beans

A few weeks ago, I made popcorn shrimp, french fries, and baked beans for dinner. It was an easy night for the cook :) Eli was in true form and not wanting to eat anything at all, so I was using all the tricks I had in my bag to get him to take just one bite. Before I knew what I was saying I found myself whispering a rhyme to Eli about beans that my Poppy told me a long time ago. I'm sure you guys know which one I'm talking about but I'll go ahead and write it for the sake of reliving my childhood.

"Beans, beans, the wonderful fruit
The more you eat, the more you poot.
The more you poot, the better you feel,
so let's have beans for every meal!"

By the way, this is why I think I'm a good momma to a little boy. If I had a little girl, I wouldn't be able to share this wisdom with them :) Anyway, Eli immediately started cackling when he heard the word "poot", because any kind of bathroom humor is already funny to him. My rhyme did work it's magic though because he ended up eating, but it was just so he could say the word "poot" every time he took a bite of beans. At that point, I didn't care at all. I was just thankful he was eating :)

Fast forward two weeks and we go to Mammy and Uncle Clare's house for hamburgers, french fries, and beans. Eli was still playing while we all ate, but eventually got hungry enough and came to join us. We were all  talking and laughing when a small little voice was heard above all the others..."Beans make me POOT!"

After laughing so hard I cried, I remember feeling a surge of pride...he's got a great memory! Let's just hope he doesn't decide to show this "trick" at school :)

We have changed the exterior color because the previous one turned out to be peach. We now have won the award of the "Ugliest House on the Block" and we haven't even moved in yet! It seemed to be such a pretty color on the swatch, but it wasn't pretty AT ALL when it was on the siding. My stomach just sinks thinking about how wrong it was. Anyway, today my husband, who should be a decorator because he rocks at this whole building a house thing, picked out a new color and it's perfect. It pains me to say that, but it's true. Here's the updated exterior color and the new trim color that my wonderfully talented decorator of a husband chose :)

While we were at the house detesting the fact that our house is currently peach, we walked around on the inside and noticed that the color I picked for Eli's room could go a shade darker. I always thought that the colors you picked on a swatch would look darker, but that hasn't been the case at all! Every color we've seen has been lighter. Maybe because it's tinted primer????

All the other colors work (THANK THE LORD!), but the painter said I have until Monday if I change my mind. The only other color I'm debating going darker with is the guest bedroom that is currently Celery Salt. I'm thinking it needs to be darker, but we'll just have to see. I'm going to take the weekend to think it over. I'll be posting pictures this weekend of the work they did at the house this week, so be looking for those! You'll get to see what the house is going to kind of look like, but just keep in mind that you're seeing tinted primer. It's not the final color yet!

Paint colors are going on the walls this week, so I thought I'd give everyone a preview of what to expect. Picking out colors was not nearly as easy as I thought it would be, but thanks to my wonderful, sweet friend, Torri, I was able to pick the colors that I think work (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!) All the colors I picked out were Benjamin Moore, but the painter ended up using Devoe. Thank goodness he was able to color match!

Exterior Siding Color: Richmond Bisque
The trim and the columns are going to be Navajo White-it's a creamy white. I think it'll look really pretty with this color.

Living Room/Dining Room, Kitchen Areas: Bleeker Beige

Mudroom/Laundry Room: White Sand

Guest Bedroom: Gray Owl
I'm so excited about doing a gray/yellow (maybe turquoise) bedroom! I love gray (as you can tell!)

Master Bedroom/Bathroom: Smoke

This was the ONLY color I was positive about from the beginning. I love it! It's so relaxing!

The Wilson's Build Their Dream House Update

This past week at the new house brought lots of changes and updates. It's all starting to really come together! Our trim/cabinet guy is simply AMAZING! Every time I left the house I was just in awe of his work. Plus, he's a great guy and always made sure that what he was doing was exactly what Josh and I wanted. He had nothing to worry about! We LOVE everything!!

Our workers also installed most of our doors. At one point we were going to go with a different style than this, but after noticing that everything in our house pretty much had a right angle, we went with the traditional six paneled door.

Our brick guys finished the steps on the back patio. All they have left to finish now is our mailbox, steps in the mudroom, and one eave of the house. After all this they'll be completely finished! Woo Hoo!

Wednesday our stair parts came in and Thursday our cabinet/trim guy installed them for us. I've got to give credit where credit is due. The ONLY thing I had to do with this was I mentioned that I liked the bars that looked like scrolls. Josh picked everything else out on his own. I tell him all the time that he could do this for a living!

They installed the pretty stainable wood steps on top of the pine ones that were already there.

Friday afternoon after school I stopped by to see what they'd done and was amazed at how fast they'd put everything together.

Our cabinet/trim guy was actually supposed to finish Friday, but our cabinet doors didn't make it until late that day, so he had to extend his stay one day. Saturday morning Eli and I drove by to see what they were working on and once again I fell in love with our house. I'm so ready for it to be finished!

Our brick guys also were back today to finish the last few things they needed to do. One of those was building our mailbox :)

They also finished bricking the eave of the house.

Eli and I went to the store and when we got back around 11:30 this is what the kitchen looked like. I told you they were fast!

Eli and I took a trip upstairs and for the first time since we started building I wasn't scared to death about him falling and hurting himself. I was so thankful for those stairs and rails!

Our cabinet/trim guys are finished for now. They'll come back after our floors are laid and will install the shoe moulding along the baseboards, but for now they're finished! I cannot say enough great things about their crew. They were AMAZING!! Next up for the Wilson's is painting! HOORAY!! I've got to double check my colors this weekend (a little nervous about that) and then they'll be ready to rock and roll. Until then...
